Dave Miller

Guitarist, Dave Miller, has already built a very impressive and wide-ranging roster of collaborations in the short amount of time he has spent in Chicago. From the traditional to the avant-garde, the concert hall to the dive rock bar, Miller leaves no musical stone unturned.

He has been a three time consecutive winner in the Union and Civic Arts League of Chicago Jazz Improvisation Competition and was recently featured in Chicago Magazine, the Chicago Reader, Jazziz Magazine, and has appeared on the ABC Morning News. In addition to his sought-after, genre-defying talents in guitar performance, Miller has also become respected and heralded as a serious composer, mainly from the output of his experimental indie rock group, Algernon, whose new album, “Ghost Surveillance,” was just released on Cuneiform Records. Miller is also a member of, among other bands, Ted Sirota’s Rebel Souls (Delmark/Naim Records), Zing! (ears&eyes Records), blink. (Thirsty Ear Records), W. W. Lowman (Arbouse Recordings), and Tim Daisy’s New Fracture Quartet (Multi Kulti Records). Miller has also composed for classical guitar, film, and theatre. Other performance highlights include numerous tours in the United States and Europe, four appearances at the Chicago Jazz Festival, four appearances at Chicago’s Millennium Park, and numerous appearances at major Chicago clubs such as the Metro, Schuba’s, the Green Mill, the Jazz Showcase, the Double Door, the Hideout, and the Empty Bottle.

Miller earned his BA in 2005 in the famed Jazz Studies program at Northern Illinois University. Here, under the tutelage of the eclectic genius Fareed Haque (Sting, Garaj Mahal, etc.), Miller was exposed not only to jazz, but also to many other musics from across the world. Although Miller earned his degree in jazz, he has also always valued a similar eclecticism and versatility. These values have enabled Miller to work in virtually all avenues of the music industry.
