6th Annual Umbrella Music Festival This Week!!!
Umbrella Music is pleased to kick off the sixth annual UMBRELLA MUSIC FESTIVAL this week, from November 2nd-6th. Once again, the event will serve as the yearly focal point for jazz and improvised music from Chicago and beyond.
Dubbed by the Chicago Reader "the most impressive and adventurous jazz event of the year," the Umbrella Music Festival features cutting-edge jazz and improvised music from around the world, with a particular focus on artists from the diverse, cooperative, and thriving local scene.
The Umbrella Music Festival opens Wednesday, November 2nd with a special evening of FREE concerts dubbed "EUROPEAN JAZZ MEETS CHICAGO," co-presented by Umbrella Music, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events in partnership with the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture, and ten different European consulates and cultural organizations. In 2011 this fantastic collaboration celebrates its fifth year, and will include two nights of FREE concerts at the Chicago Cultural Center on Wednesday, November 2nd, and Thursday, November 3rd.
The festival continues over the weekend at the regular Umbrella Music venues, and features an incredible lineup of world-renowned artists including Tim Berne, John Butcher, Marshall Allen, Odean Pope, Mary Halvorson, Matt Wilson, and many more!
In addition to these fantastic nights of music, you can also check out some pre-fest preview events including the North American premier of “Soldier of the Road,” the new documentary on famed German saxophonist Peter Brotzmann. Check here for more details on those events.
You can find the complete festival schedule below. Hope to see you there!
